The body makes five different types of its own collagen for different bodily tissue. The collagen in human skin is comprised of 90 per cent type 1 collagen. As well as skin, type 1 collagen is also present in bones and blood vessels.
From the age of about 30, the quantity and quality of collagen produced in our skin diminishes, resulting in the visible signs of ageing. This is where supplements can help.
